The former ‘monastery’ in Großbarop at Baroper Straße 244 was first mentioned around 1477 as the property of the Dortmund Dominican monastery.
In the 19th century, farmer Wortmann took over the house.
In 1994, the barn was converted into an office under the management of U. Thelen.
The office was used as an architectural practice until 2022
Since 2024, the office has been used as a co-working space under the name officebarnbarop

As a leitmotif, the outer shell of the building was left largely as it was found. The structure of the exterior walls was also retained on the inside, i.e. only repaired, slurried or painted.

The ‘folds’, the changes that have taken place and the character of the building remain visible. Old and new stand side by side as a matter of course. The simplicity of the old part of the barn determines the main structure.
This simple fit-out structure is complemented by special fixtures and materials in selected areas. In the office wing, a gallery with olive wood parquet flooring and veneered balustrade, the door glazing with louvre windows and a sliding wooden door in front.
